Health Alert from the Student Health Center |
|
Multiple cases of Influenza A diagnosed on campus this week The Student Health Center has diagnosed multiple cases of Influenza A in the past week. These cases are NOT related to each other. They have been diagnosed in resident students living in different resident halls and commuting students. This is significant – Student Health Services can now predict that there will be a surge of additional cases in the next two weeks.

Barry University’s Public Safety Department has
partnered with Miami-Dade County to bring the Barry community wireless emergency
notifications through Miami-Dade Alerts.
The system, formally announced at a news conference Thursday, Jan. 17, will
allow Barry University to send out Barry-specific messages to students, faculty,
staff and/or friends of the university who enroll in the service.
The notification system is a free, but voluntary, system that will be tied into
that of the whole county. There will be an official sign-up form at
Public Safety locations in Landon 100 and Thompson 111 beginning Tuesday, Jan.
22. By signing up at either location, students, faculty and staff
will receive messages on the device of their choice in the event of an
emergency. Messages sent to the Barry community will be specific to Barry
University, but those who enroll will also receive emergency alerts from
Miami-Dade County including, but not limited to, police, fire rescue and severe
weather issues.

My dear Barry community,
It is with great sadness that I write to tell you that John Beaubrun, vice
provost for information technology and assistant professor of computer
information systems, passed away on Sunday afternoon.
John was a good and decent man who was committed to Barry’s mission and values.
As a member of our university community since 1983, John served in a variety of
positions during his twenty-four year tenure. John will be sorely missed by all
of us, especially by his colleagues in
DoIT. Like you, I mourn the
loss of a good friend.
John’s family has asked that the Barry community come together to celebrate
John’s life at a funeral Mass in Cor Jesu Chapel on Wednesday, October 31, at

Faculty or technology coordinators associated with distance education classes or courses that meet off campus should also require students to login to their official Barry University student email accounts
