Mattey Comments: Dr. Hays was
my advisor and professor from 2000-2004. She was
such a wonderful and caring professor. She was
tough on me in a good way because she never let
fall behind in my studies and always encouraged me
to continue on with my education. I will always
look up to her. Rest in Peace Dr Hays, you were a
great person, mother, grandmother, and professor
to all of us!!! |

'06 Comments: When I first met
Betty and began a working relationship with her, I
was frankly intimidated by her the strength of her
personality and the passion she had for doing
things right. Then came a day when I needed to get
some information about one of her advisees that
had graduated a couple of years earlier, but left
her account unsettled. I went to Betty's office
and asked if she could help. Betty immediately
whipped open a file drawer and pulled out her
advising file on the student. I found every
conversation Betty had ever had with the student
about the program, tuition, fees and academic
expectations was neatly documented. Betty's
organization and diligence for doing it right
saved me hours of legwork. After that, "Hays" and
I became fast friends. We knew that our ability to
collaborate was an asset to each of us and our
departments. I miss you my friend. ~Debbie

great sadness, we cling tightly to one another,
and to the cherished memories of our love one and
teachers. And yet we also pause to celebrate their
sacred presence among us.
As close as warmth is to the sun, as close as
waves are to the sea, as close as wind is to the
sky... For the spirit is eternal, and the love we
share in this family of faith is
everlasting. |
From: her
daughter, Kitty Comments: I am
so grateful to the Barry community. It was a
second home for me growing up as a child in Miami
in the 1980's. I embraced the changes through the
years from when I graduated in 2000 to just
recently when I was there for my mother's
services. Thank you to all of the students and
colleagues for their prayers and support. There
will always be a special place for Barry in my
heart and an even larger place for my mother. She
may be gone but her legacy and teachings will
carry on through me, her family, and you all- her
friends.

written in memory of Dr. E Hays.
My prayers go out to her family, a great void
exsist now that she has gone on to be with the
lord. She was an example of a great person whom
God lent to us for a while... Thank you Jesus for
that. My heart is heavy... missing her. To know
her was such a blessing for me, she was a great
professor who made you earn your grade...but you
always left her class with a full understanding of
the material, this was much more important than
getting an "A", which I never got. Very tough, yet
the most gentle spirit ever. Thank you Dr. Hays
for all that you taught me, I will never forget
you... until we meet again! -Rachel DeMurrell

2000 Comments: I am truly
grateful to have known Dr. Hays who taught a
number of courses at Barry during my academic
journey there, and I am deeply saddened to learn
of these news. Dr. Hays worked very hard to help
many students succeed including myself and led
many of us to pursue our academic and career
goals. I came to Barry in the summer of 1996 and
had the privilege of having her as advisor and
mentor. Throughout the four years of my
undergraduate career she provided the best
possible mentoring and guidance. She had an open
door policy and I would stop by her office to seek
guidance and she was always available. She
expressed joy when I told her I was in graduate
school pursuing the same professional degree like
her and I am sure she must have been very proud to
learn I am now an assistant professor in a medical
school. Thank you for everything Dr. Elizabeth
Hays, I will be always grateful for your
guidance. Mark H |

tough Professor of Physiology. I took her class my
2nd year of Graduate Medical Studies at Barry
University. However, when I met her in her office
she was patient and longsuffering while trying to
get me to understand every detail of the
cardiovascular system's physiology. Indeed, I can
say I learned thoroughly at her hand and every
exam I worked hard to please her and do well. I
thank God that through her diligent instruction I
made it through. You will be missed Dr.

'03 Comments: I remember when
I was first starting out at Barry, Dr. Hays had a
program that you could attend for a week or so
before the semester actually began, and it was
like a week long orientation, and it helped us
transition from highschool life into college life,
and i'm so grateful to her for having that,
because I would have felt so incredibly lost and
confused come the first day of classes,
lol. Anyways, I had her for a semester as my
advisor, and she did intimidate me at first, but
then i came to realize that she just wanted the
best for each and every one of her students. She
was always willing to help or give advice if she
was there and her door was always open.
This is such a shock to me, and I would have
liked to have been present for the service, and i
apologize that i wasn't there, but i did not
know:(
You will be missed
tremendously |
