Flu Update
Due to the recent
outbreak of the H1N1 virus, many universities have been making and sharing
plans for increased infection control during graduation ceremonies and
related events.
Although there have been no
reported or suspected cases of H1N1 at Barry University, the Student
Health Center is recommending the following practices during
commencement-related events:
- Rose & Candle: Large waterless hand sanitizer dispensers will
be available to all participates for use as a precaution prior to the
ceremony.
- Baccalaureate Mass: Please follow archdiocese guidelines and avoid
personal contact during the sign of peace.
- Senior Salute: Hand sanitizer dispensers will be available at
the registration desk at Senior Salute.
- Graduation: Hand sanitizers will be available for each
graduate and each member of the stage party to be used prior to their
procession. Waterless hand sanitizers provide a two hour barrier for
infection control on hands.
During other events taking place
this weekend - Honors
Convocation, Award Ceremonies, Exhibit Openings and End of the Year
gatherings – please practice good personal hygiene using the following
tips:
- Wash your hands often. Wash with soap and warm
water both before and after you eat and use the bathroom.
- If you have a cold with sneezing and coughing,
cough and sneeze into your upper arm and use tissues. Always wash your
hands after blowing your nose or coughing into your hands.
- Do not share water bottles, drinking glasses,
cutlery or tooth brushes with anyone.
- If you are ill and running a fever, please stay
home and contact your physician.
