MARC Celebrates 20 years at Barry

Reflections on Commemorative Research Symposium, February 13, 2003:

“The symposium was a great opportunity, not only to present our work but also to hear from students who have been in our shoes and who are now in graduate school. It was great to be able to listen to their advice and experiences as post MARC students who are now in graduate school.” – Constanza Berger, Senior

“I thought that the symposium was a wonderful experience! I felt that the interaction with the undergraduate and graduate researchers and professional is an incentive to work harder at my studies and research and how I execute my goals.” – Tiffany Guff, Junior

“I thought the MARC symposium was a very good guide for those individuals that are unsure of what it entailed to enter graduate school. Alumni advice and contribution were extremely helpful.” – Amaru Sanchez, Freshman

“It was a great experience technically on par with a national meeting, but even better because our peers at school who don’t usually have such opportunities got to see what professional meetings are about and what we do when we travel to those meetings.” – Salihah Dick, Junior

“The MARC symposium was a great idea and experience to have. It gave me the opportunity to share my research project with some of my classmates. The symposium provided me with valuable information for applying to graduate school and it gave me a chance to learn about projects in which past MARC students were involved.” – Roody Pierre-Charles, Junior.

“The MARC Symposium was really a tremendous help for me! The presentations done by the graduate students enlightened me of all the things which I should watch for, as well as tips on what to do in order to succeed in both entering a graduate school, and most importantly, being able to get through it! All of the presenters spoke of how the MARC and the MBRS Rise programs helped them to prepare and to give them the necessary knowledge, background, and experience, for the numerous upcoming difficulties which they would encounter once in graduate school! These testimonies were what led me to apply for this wonderful research program; and I am loving it!" -Poincyanne Assis, Sophomore
