The scientific method as defined by Becker W, Kleinsmith L, and Hardin J. (p. 11) in “The World of the Cell 5th edition” is the way new and better information becomes available. It is indicated by these authors that the scientific method begins as: 1. initial observations are made 2. a testable hypothesis is formulated 3. a controlled experiment is designed 4. data is collected 5. interpretation of results 6. a conclusion is drawn The scientific method helps the science community to be able to present new testable information or to prove if something is wrong. From here a hypothesis which is tested extensively and is confirmed could eventually become a theory and then over time it may become a law. References: Becker WM, Kleinsmith LJ, Hardin J. 2003.
