At the completion of this Seminar course all students will possess the skills and knowledge necessary to read, write, and evaluate scientific documents. By reading, interpreting and discussing current scientific journal articles the student will not only increase his/her analytical and critical thinking skills, but the student will also gain the foundation needed to be successful in any scientific environment. The students will be able recognize problems outside of the biomedical environment that can be resolved thru the utilization of the scientific method. This course will develop the students’ ability to write and present scientific reviews in a scholarly manner. Finally, the student will be able to read any scientific article with comprehension; analyze the information within the article, and organize their own ideas in such a way that they will be able to apply the information to their own lives. Based upon the definitions: Anticipatory means to look forward to something and set means to adjust something; I would say that anticipatory set is something that adjusts a student’s interest in a topic or better yet adjust the students interest into achieving a given goal. According to http://www.akchap.org/anticipa.htm anticipatory set is a brief activity or event that effectively engages students’ attention and focuses their thoughts on their learning objectives. According to www.dictionary.com cognitive is knowing, or apprehending by the understanding; and domain is a territory over which rule or control is exercised. Based upon those to definitions I would say that cognitive domain is a place within your mind that allows your thoughts to run freely in a creative manner. According to http://www.nwlink.com/~donclark/hrd/bloom.html cognitive domain involves knowledge and the development of intellectual skills. Cognitive Domain consists of six major categories which range from the simplest all the way to the most complex. The six categories are as follows knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. The Pharisees asked Jesus, “Where is your anticipatory set and your objectives in the cognitive domain?” He answered “I have promised the disciples the ability to heal the sick, and eventually a place in my Fathers’ kingdom if they learn the things that I teach them. This reward is so great that they are sure to learn these lessons and spread them throughout the nations”.
